PHARMACIST PRESCRIBING FOR MINOR AILMENTS

At Coniston Pharmacy, our pharmacists are authorized to prescribe for 19 minor ailments, which are health conditions that can be managed with minimal treatment and/or self-care strategies.

Additionally, for a medical condition to be considered a minor ailment, it must be:

Usually a short-term condition
Unlikely to require lab results
Low risk of treatment masking other underlying conditions
Absent medications or medical history red flags that suggest a more serious condition
Associated with minimal or only short-term required follow-up

Aphthous Ulcers (Canker Sores)
Candidal stomatitis (Oral Thrush)
Conjunctivitis (Bacterial, i.e. "Pink Eye", Allergic, & Viral)
Dermatitis (Atopic, Eczema, Allergic, & Contact)
Diaper Dermatitis
Dysmenorrhea
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Hemorrhoids
Herpes Labialis (Cold Sores)
Impetigo
Insect Bites & Urticaria (Hives)
Tick Bites (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis to Prevent Lyme Disease)
Musculoskeletal Sprains & Strains
Nausea & Vomiting of Pregnancy
Pinworms & Threadworms
Urinary Tract Infections (Uncomplicated)
Vulvovaginal Candidiasis (Yeast Infections)
